Retiring TO, not Retiring FROM
Designing My Next Life in Semi-Retirement
I have been working since I was sixteen years old. I worked part-time while I was in college, and immediately started working full-time with my first teaching job after college. I have never stopped working full-time. Until now.
The Decision
As of July 1, 2020, I will be semi-retired. I had a career in education for sixteen years. I had a career in sales leadership for sixteen years. I have been an entrepreneur for sixteen years. That is a lot of years, and each of my three careers lasted sixteen years.
Earlier in this year of 2020, I started thinking about retiring. I started asking myself all of the questions that go into making a retirement plan. But even before I did that, a dear friend of mine, who retired from her major career just last January, said something about her decision that I have made the cornerstone of my retirement decision: The major life change will not be a retirement from what I was doing before, but instead a retirement to a new life that I design for myself.
