February is Black History Month

Black History IS American History

I am a retired educator of all grades from Pre-K through university level.
While many across the U.S.A. are trying to erase and/or whitewash the accomplishments of Black Americans and eliminate the teaching of all American Black History by wrongly and erroneously conflating it with “Critical Race Theory,” I will be posting daily on my Instagram account for #BlackHistoryMonth.

#BlackHistoryMonth is an extension of #NegroHistoryWeek, which was initiated in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Dr. Woodson fervently believed that Black people should be proud of their heritage and ALL Americans should understand the largely overlooked achievements of Black Americans. He chose a week in February because it has the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

Yes, Black History is American History EVERY DAY, but #BlackHistoryMonth is especially the time to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of Black Americans.

The posts will be exclusively on my Instagram.

Follow me there (@pamela_hilliard_owens) to celebrate mostly lesser-known Black scientists, engineers, and inventors.

Who knows? You may learn or re-learn something, which was the exact reason why Dr. Carter G. Woodson started #NegroHistoryWeek (which was later expanded to #BlackHistoryMonth) in the first place.
